On our last trip to The Racetrack in Death Valley National Park ( in 2006), we got some of the most spectacular lighting I’ve ever seen over this playa. The colorful clouds in this photograph always reminds me of a giant fiery bird flying into the sky.

This is a single exposure image created using a soft GND filter. We like to shoot The Racetrack at sunset. Broken cloud cover led us to believe that there might be a chance that the sky would put on a good show for us… and it did.
